[05:36.840 --> 05:47.200] Well, the holy grail of psychology is somebody who's not only sane, which leaves out an awful
[05:47.200 --> 05:56.120] lot of people, but somebody whose life is really working, and in the 70s and 80s, a
[05:56.120 --> 06:03.840] psychologist named Abraham Maslow, who was the guru of humanistic psychology, he came
[06:03.840 --> 06:11.320] up with the idea of a self-actualized individual, and he thought a self-actualized individual
[06:11.320 --> 06:13.200] had a life that really worked.
[06:13.200 --> 06:19.320] They had nice relationships, they made a good living, they took nice vacations, their children
[06:19.320 --> 06:27.120] were fully functional, decent human beings, and overall, they had a fully functional life.
[06:27.120 --> 06:38.280] He said, if you look for these people, about 5% of the population is self-actualized.
[06:38.280 --> 06:45.080] I was involved in research in the area of neuro-linguistic programming and other forms
[06:45.080 --> 06:53.360] of psychotherapy, psychology, and I set out on a course to identify all of the behavioral,
[06:53.360 --> 07:00.520] perceptual, and emotional patterns that would be necessary and sufficient to make a fully
[07:00.520 --> 07:08.440] functional, self-actualized human being in the style of Abraham Maslow.
[07:08.440 --> 07:15.920] Over the years, I accumulated a formal theoretical model for self-actualization, and this formal
[07:15.920 --> 07:21.080] theoretical model, you can hold it in your hand, you can look at it, and it has all of
[07:21.080 --> 07:27.440] the behavioral, perceptual, and emotional patterns necessary and sufficient to make
[07:27.440 --> 07:34.920] a fully functional, self-actualized human being whose life is really very, very wonderful.
[07:34.920 --> 07:39.880] This is, I call it, self-actualization technology.
[07:39.880 --> 07:48.280] Okay, so what are the components of a fully self-actualized human being?
[07:48.280 --> 07:55.320] Well, if you look at the overall formal model, which you can see on a piece of paper, there
[07:55.320 --> 08:00.920] are all these patterns, patterns, patterns, patterns, but it's not an infinite number
[08:00.920 --> 08:06.600] of patterns, it begins with a sense of self-worth.
[08:06.600 --> 08:13.560] The foundation of a healthy personality and a personality that is able to get all of the
[08:13.560 --> 08:20.040] things that we want and enjoy in life that we think of as being a healthy experience
[08:20.040 --> 08:27.080] begins with a sense of self-worth, a sense that my life is significant and important.
[08:27.080 --> 08:31.840] I personally have value.
[08:31.840 --> 08:33.440] Does that make sense?
[08:33.440 --> 08:36.400] It makes sense.
[08:36.400 --> 08:41.960] You go through the different ones, and then I want to go back and have you tell us what
[08:41.960 --> 08:46.200] it means to have each one of these components.
[08:46.200 --> 08:52.440] Well, we begin with the feeling of self-worth, and you can tell any strong human being has
[08:52.440 --> 08:54.360] a sense of self.
[08:54.360 --> 09:00.480] They have a sense of the importance of their own life, the significance and value of their
[09:00.480 --> 09:09.320] own life, and the next value up on the chart is a sense of self-respect, respect for what
[09:09.320 --> 09:16.560] they want to achieve and accomplish in life, what they want to do, be, have, and experience.
[09:16.560 --> 09:23.400] Then the next pattern is respect for others, respect for the values and the significance
[09:23.400 --> 09:25.400] of other people.
[09:25.400 --> 09:31.760] You begin with self-worth, you go to self-respect, then you go to respect for others, and then
[09:31.760 --> 09:40.680] another set of patterns is a sense of self-reliance, the ability, the thought that, yes, I can
[09:40.680 --> 09:44.760] get what I really want out of life, and I'm going to do that.
[09:44.760 --> 09:52.320] And that's a sense of self-reliance, then a sense of healthy independence, realization
[09:52.320 --> 10:00.200] that we're not alone, but we are independent in a healthy way, and we go after our goals
[10:00.200 --> 10:06.120] and we have a working relationship with other people, but we're not codependent.
[10:06.120 --> 10:10.160] We have a healthy independence.
[10:10.160 --> 10:14.520] Then the next pattern is a sense of self-sufficiency.
[10:14.520 --> 10:20.360] Not only do I have a sense that I can rely on myself or a sense of self-reliance and
[10:20.360 --> 10:25.600] the sense that I can experience other people in a healthy way, but I have a sense that
[10:25.600 --> 10:29.000] I am, in and of myself, sufficient.
[10:29.000 --> 10:35.520] I can do, be, have, and experience what I want to experience in life.
[10:35.520 --> 10:41.120] So you start with a sense of self-worth, go to a sense of self-respect, go to a sense
[10:41.120 --> 10:48.320] of respect for others, and then there is a sense of self-reliance, a healthy independence,
[10:48.320 --> 10:55.400] self-sufficiency, and all of this rests upon a sense of the importance, significance, and
[10:55.400 --> 10:59.360] value of my life to me.
[10:59.360 --> 11:03.600] That's the underlying set of patterns.
[11:03.600 --> 11:10.800] Then as we go up the formal model, we see compelling goals, the things that are important
[11:10.800 --> 11:13.360] to me in a healthy way.
[11:13.360 --> 11:19.880] Then there's want to versus have to, and this is a very, very important pattern.
[11:19.880 --> 11:23.960] You'll find that successful people say, I want to do this.
[11:23.960 --> 11:25.640] I want to experience this.
[11:25.640 --> 11:27.080] I want to achieve this goal.
[11:27.080 --> 11:28.360] I want to do this.
[11:28.360 --> 11:33.840] I want to have this vacation, or I want to buy this car, or whatever.
[11:33.840 --> 11:38.640] You'll find that people who are not as healthy in their personality structure will say things
[11:38.640 --> 11:43.440] like, I have to, I must, I've got to.
[11:43.440 --> 11:50.400] The first sense of compelling goals, where they do what they want to do and achieve what
[11:50.400 --> 11:58.400] they want to do is to be contrasted with the sense of, it's not quite as healthy an experience.
[11:58.400 --> 12:02.200] I have to do this and I have to do that.
[12:02.200 --> 12:10.080] Then we also include planning skills, and we include a sense of life criteria as a central
[12:10.080 --> 12:12.800] organizing principle.
[12:12.800 --> 12:16.360] One of the patterns that I will work with people, I'll say to them, take a piece of
[12:16.360 --> 12:20.760] paper and write down all of the things that you want to do, be, have an experience in
[12:20.760 --> 12:28.480] your life, then on that same piece of paper down at the bottom, write everything that
[12:28.480 --> 12:36.920] you want to accomplish in the next five years, then at the absolute bottom, write down what
[12:36.920 --> 12:42.600] you would do if you were told by your doctor that you've got a terminal disease and you'll
[12:42.600 --> 12:45.800] be passed away in six months.
[12:45.800 --> 12:53.240] Take all of these goals, all of these things that you want, and organize them in the priority
[12:53.240 --> 13:01.440] 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, and we'll say arbitrarily, these are your life goals, these
[13:01.440 --> 13:08.080] are your life criteria, the things that are most important to you on a personal basis
[13:08.080 --> 13:11.720] for you to have, do be, have an end experience.
[13:11.720 --> 13:18.220] Those are your life criteria, and by definition, if you are doing anything other than working
[13:18.220 --> 13:25.080] on your life criteria, by your own standards, you're wasting your time.
[13:25.080 --> 13:32.120] So this encourages people and pushes them toward going after what's most important to them
[13:32.120 --> 13:37.880] and reducing the amount of time that they waste to an absolute irreducible minimum.
[13:37.880 --> 13:41.200] So are you with me so far, Mr. Kelton?
[13:41.200 --> 13:46.480] Yes, I am, and I'm looking at all of these different criteria.
[13:46.480 --> 13:55.880] And I am struck with the notion that all of these fit very neatly together, and each follows
[13:55.880 --> 13:59.560] from one from the other.
[13:59.560 --> 14:05.680] You're looking at a formal theoretical model on a piece of paper that I would love to give

[14:47.480 --> 14:50.920] Well, you have to think of a pink elephant.
[14:50.920 --> 14:58.240] So I tell people, take this download, print it out, tape it to your refrigerator, and

[15:02.440 --> 15:09.840] And they will start thinking in terms of self-worth, self-respect, respect for others, the important
[15:09.840 --> 15:16.480] significance and value of their life to them, compelling goals, doing what they really want
[15:16.480 --> 15:22.080] to do, planning skills, and life criteria.
[15:22.080 --> 15:30.280] And by repetition, it starts to become part of your consciousness, and over time, this
[15:30.280 --> 15:37.480] transfers into your personality structure, and you become a more fully functional human
[15:37.480 --> 15:45.680] being or person that we refer to as a person who is self-actualized.
[15:45.680 --> 15:55.320] This sounds like something that I've come across in two specific different places.
[15:55.320 --> 16:03.440] One is prayer, and the other is the Harvard School of Business, where they speak to setting
[16:03.440 --> 16:06.480] specific goals.
[16:06.480 --> 16:18.120] So these patterns are what is necessary and sufficient to make a fully functional, self-actualized
[16:18.120 --> 16:19.120] human being.
[16:19.120 --> 16:21.400] And it's the study of a lifetime.
[16:21.400 --> 16:25.600] It'll take a lifetime of study, but the rewards are immediate.
[16:25.600 --> 16:27.960] You start feeling better about yourself.
[16:27.960 --> 16:33.280] You start achieving more and experiencing more enjoyment of life immediately as soon
[16:33.280 --> 16:37.160] as you run into this type of tools.
[16:37.160 --> 16:45.360] Okay, so I'm looking at this, and I've studied setting goals, and prayer is essentially the

[23:14.040 --> 23:23.320] It's a painful experience and it distorts their experience of life in its entirety and

[23:26.360 --> 23:30.320] There will be times where I will sit with people and I'll say, all right, take a deep
[23:30.320 --> 23:36.280] breath and put your eyes down and just get a feeling that you are valuable.
[23:36.280 --> 23:43.680] You're part of God's universe, God puts you here, and you have as much a right to be here
[23:43.680 --> 23:45.600] as anybody else.

[23:49.280 --> 23:55.880] You are valued just because you're here and, Randy, you would be surprised at the number
[23:55.880 --> 24:02.120] of people who take a deep breath and begin to reorganize their experience in a much more

[24:04.120 --> 24:11.040] A sense of self-worth is the foundation of a healthy personality and I mean a healthy
[24:11.040 --> 24:17.480] sense of self-worth, one that's generated from within, that's not dependent on other
[24:17.480 --> 24:26.200] external circumstances like big salary or fancy car, but just a solid sense that I am valuable.
[24:26.200 --> 24:31.960] I'm part of God's universe and I have a right to be here as much as the sun and the moon
[24:31.960 --> 24:35.400] and the stars, I have value.
[24:35.400 --> 24:43.280] I have inherent, intrinsic value and that seems to help people enormously no matter
[24:43.280 --> 24:54.880] what kind of problem is in front of them, so that's what I have to say about self-worth.

[25:09.720 --> 25:18.000] Well, the amazing part of all of this material is that when you find somebody in stress,
[25:18.000 --> 25:23.080] somebody who needs psychological counseling, universally if you ask them to take a deep
[25:23.080 --> 25:30.240] breath and just get a feeling that you are valuable, invariably all of their problems
[25:30.240 --> 25:36.200] start to become in a different perspective and they are easier to handle.
[25:36.200 --> 25:43.840] By the way, there is a physiologic component to this that bears on our health and I'll
[25:43.840 --> 25:51.160] share with you how I discovered one of these patterns, the one-two versus half-two pattern.
[25:51.160 --> 25:57.520] I was at my brother's restaurant late one night and a fellow came in and he had dark
[25:57.520 --> 26:04.240] circles under his eyes and he was obviously exhausted and he had ordered some food and
[26:04.240 --> 26:10.040] he was there and we chatted for a moment and then his food was ready and so he paid for
[26:10.040 --> 26:16.720] his food and then he gathered up his food to take with him and he turned to me and he
[26:16.720 --> 26:26.040] said, I have to go, I've got a lot of baloney that I have to take from people tomorrow and
[26:26.040 --> 26:34.960] he stumbled out the door, totally exhausted but on his way to finish the rest of his day
[26:34.960 --> 26:37.880] and it dawned on me this person did what?
[26:37.880 --> 26:45.200] He did what he had to do, he didn't do what he wanted to do and this one-two versus half-two

[32:20.800 --> 32:32.000] being gestated, how the chemicals and the condition of the parent affects the development
[32:32.000 --> 32:40.600] of the brain in the child that a woman in great stress during a pregnancy will cause
[32:40.600 --> 32:47.880] the brain of the fetus to develop susceptible to stress.
[32:47.880 --> 32:54.440] So we get a guy who's been under stress all his life, and he, why is this the way I am?
[32:54.440 --> 32:57.360] Well, maybe not.
[32:57.360 --> 33:07.080] Maybe this was an influence from the... I'm losing my word, Dr. Joe.

[33:38.800 --> 33:44.480] can be strengthened, then the path forward is clear.
[33:44.480 --> 33:51.800] We just begin to emphasize those areas that we want to be stronger, and it can certainly
[33:51.800 --> 33:55.160] be done with a sense of self-worth.
[33:55.160 --> 33:59.760] It certainly can be done with a sense of self-respect for others.
[33:59.760 --> 34:07.680] We can clarify our goals and become conscious of what our goals are, and our planning skills,
[34:07.680 --> 34:15.040] our life criteria, and the overall formal theoretical model of self-actualization gives
[34:15.040 --> 34:22.200] us a path to a greater sense of fulfillment and emptiness and enjoyment of life.

[34:27.000 --> 34:37.320] For me, reading these, they're actually scientific texts, they're synopses of various scientific

[34:38.320 --> 34:47.400] It's incredibly enlightening that not all of what I am is because of decisions that
[34:47.400 --> 34:50.400] I've made.
[34:50.400 --> 34:56.480] We hear so many people say, well, this is how I am, it's not my fault, and I've always
[34:56.480 --> 35:04.440] been an alpha male, and I always felt like I am what I choose to be, well, maybe not.
[35:04.440 --> 35:10.160] Maybe I am what I was influenced to be, and I didn't know any better.
[35:10.160 --> 35:18.680] But the one thing in reading this is, once you know, you can take certain actions to
[35:18.680 --> 35:19.680] change it.
[35:19.680 --> 35:26.240] Now, I referenced early prayer and setting specific goals and how they were alike.
[35:26.240 --> 35:32.840] Both of those are where you decide what you actually want, define it, specify it.
[35:32.840 --> 35:36.080] What do you want?
[35:36.080 --> 35:43.480] And then, in setting specific goals, you decide that no matter what, the universe will provide
[35:43.480 --> 35:45.480] that for me.
[35:45.480 --> 35:51.840] If you're a member of the Christian religion, then you pray to God and ask Him to present
[35:51.840 --> 35:59.720] that to you, to manifest it in your life, and then forget about it, and leave it alone,
[35:59.720 --> 36:02.840] and trust on faith that it will manifest.
[36:02.840 --> 36:08.440] In that regard, prayer and goal setting are the same, and that's what we're speaking
[36:08.440 --> 36:20.440] to here, that when I first talked to Dr. Joe, it opened my eyes to the basic structure.

[36:24.360 --> 36:29.600] I got all this stuff that I want to do and I want to become, but how do I get there?
[36:29.600 --> 36:30.600] How do I start?
[36:30.600 --> 36:42.200] I'll start with self-worth, then I develop a little self-respect, and when Dr. Joe first
[36:42.200 --> 36:45.360] threw this with me, I was absolutely intrigued.
[36:45.360 --> 36:56.720] Go ahead, Dr. Joe, how do we move from the birth experience to our developmental stages
[36:56.720 --> 37:02.160] to the point that we become sentient and in control of our behavior?
[37:02.160 --> 37:08.680] How do we take actions that will mitigate the negative effect of those influences?
[37:08.680 --> 37:17.320] Well, the good news of self-actualization technology is that nothing is engraved in
[37:17.320 --> 37:24.920] stone, and a brief meditation or thoughtfulness of any one of the patterns, including the

[37:46.800 --> 37:52.920] So if you take a moment to have a sense of gratitude for everything you have and you
[37:52.920 --> 37:58.920] combine that with a sense of self-worth, where does that put you, Mr. Kelton?

[38:01.720 --> 38:09.360] Self-worth, a sense of appreciation, gratitude, and joyful anticipation of more good things
[38:09.360 --> 38:17.040] in your life is a nice place to be, and it's a wonderful feeling to walk around with every

[38:19.720 --> 38:27.800] And when Dr. Joe first presented this to me, I was impressed with that part because I've
[38:27.800 --> 38:35.720] studied psychology most of my life, and one thing I came to realize, you will not create
[38:35.720 --> 38:40.800] in your life what you want or what you wish for.

[38:48.640 --> 38:55.200] If you expect to have no self-worth, you'll act like you don't have any self-worth.

[45:23.680 --> 45:30.440] of self-worth, and if you don't have a sense of self-worth, having a sense of self-respect,
[45:30.440 --> 45:35.640] that is respect for yourself and what you want to do, be, have, and experience in life
[45:35.640 --> 45:38.240] is actually impossible.
[45:38.240 --> 45:43.720] So when you see the fentanyl deaths and the heroin use and the homelessness and the drug
[45:43.720 --> 45:51.400] addiction and the despair, this is an end result of lack of self-worth and a lack of

[48:21.960 --> 48:29.040] This was a very serious practice, and the end result was that a happy mother had a happy

[48:30.040 --> 48:39.280] Well, time went by, centuries passed, and the psychological profession began to study
[48:39.280 --> 48:47.960] the correlation between early childhood trauma, including prenatal trauma, and results later
[48:47.960 --> 48:48.960] on in life.
[48:48.960 --> 48:54.280] When we see in the Scandinavian countries, because the hospitals were part of the state
[48:54.280 --> 49:02.280] apparatus, they kept extremely good records, what they found was that prenatal trauma was
[49:02.280 --> 49:10.360] very, very frequently correlated, and it correlated well with problems later on in life.
[49:10.360 --> 49:17.240] Those who had trauma in the prenatal period often ended up divorced or in a criminal experience
[49:17.240 --> 49:24.360] or in prison, and the correlation was extraordinarily well-defined.
[49:24.360 --> 49:30.880] We have our Dr. Thomas Verney who wrote a book called The Secret Life of the Unborn
[49:30.880 --> 49:37.520] Child, and then he wrote a second book in which he does a tremendously valuable statistical
[49:37.520 --> 49:45.240] analysis based on state records of Scandinavian countries, and lo and behold, what you find
[49:45.240 --> 49:51.640] is the ancient Chinese prognostications and predictions were right on the money.
[49:51.640 --> 49:59.960] Where there is a prenatal trauma, very frequently, there will be a problem in this person's life
[49:59.960 --> 50:04.080] that goes with them all through their life.
[50:04.080 --> 50:12.040] I read this, and I had been studying the prenatal psychology information, and I determined that
[50:12.040 --> 50:22.720] I could take the old Chinese philosophy and turn it into a program for expectant moms.
[50:22.720 --> 50:30.040] Since I have a lot of training in Chinese medicine, acupuncture and philosophy, it was
[50:30.040 --> 50:31.040] actually easy.
[50:31.040 --> 50:37.400] I developed what I call the wonder baby program, and the wonder baby program is a program for
[50:37.400 --> 50:44.640] expectant couples, it is how to produce an exceptional child.
[50:44.640 --> 50:52.680] What we find is that with a supportive prenatal experience, with a prenatal enrichment program
[50:52.680 --> 50:58.840] that the parents deliberately engage, what we have is an exceptional child.
[50:58.840 --> 51:05.800] After birth, we have a person who is just exceptional by any rational standards.
[51:05.800 --> 51:14.520] My observation is they have accelerated hand or coordination, accelerated vocabulary acquisition.
[51:14.520 --> 51:18.760] They look like little Olympic athletes.
[51:18.760 --> 51:25.080] By anyone's judgment, by any observation, they are superior children, and that we call
[51:25.080 --> 51:28.080] the wonder baby technology.
[51:28.080 --> 51:36.240] I was just reading Dr. Bernie's book today, and I was struck with some of the conclusions
[51:36.240 --> 51:38.840] and discoveries they came to.
[51:38.840 --> 51:46.760] One in particular was that language is imprinted on the fetus.
[51:46.760 --> 51:55.080] Whatever language the parents speak during the gestation period, it tends to impress
[51:55.080 --> 52:02.840] the mind so that once the child is born through their whole life, they will tend to be more
[52:02.840 --> 52:08.000] sensitive to the patterns of speech of that particular language.
[52:08.000 --> 52:11.720] They spoke to three different language patterns.
[52:11.720 --> 52:19.040] The English, Chinese, and offhand, I don't remember the third one, but there were three
[52:19.040 --> 52:28.600] of them that were intrinsically and basically different, and a child that was raised with
[52:28.600 --> 52:36.720] parents that spoke one of them tended not to be able to learn the other language types
[52:36.720 --> 52:37.720] well.
[52:37.720 --> 52:42.880] A child that was raised with parents that spoke two of them would be able to learn those speech
[52:42.880 --> 52:45.160] patterns well.
[52:45.160 --> 52:52.240] The prenatal experience affected the way the fetus developed.
[52:52.240 --> 52:59.360] I had already talked to Dr. Joe about the wonder baby technology, and I came to better
[52:59.360 --> 53:02.800] understand how important that is.
[53:02.800 --> 53:09.600] It even spoke to sexual orientation, that there is a certain period in the gestation
[53:09.600 --> 53:14.920] period when certain chemicals are expressed onto the fetus.
[53:14.920 --> 53:21.520] If they're expressed too early, it causes less of a male orientation if they're expressed
[53:21.520 --> 53:24.480] too late, more of a female orientation.
[53:24.480 --> 53:33.480] So we have a fetus that's either male or female, but because of the stresses on the parent
[53:33.480 --> 53:41.440] and the expression of these chemicals at the wrong time will make a tomboy, or a guy who's

[53:42.440 --> 53:50.040] I'm not saying he's making him gay, but he's less alpha, less aggressive.

[53:52.400 --> 54:02.720] So the point was, the time when someone is carrying a child, am I right, Dr. Joe, that
[54:02.720 --> 54:07.400] may well be the most important period of the life?
[54:07.400 --> 54:14.560] It appears that it is disproportionately impactful, and that the ancient Chinese philosophers
