[01:04.600 --> 01:08.400]  That testimony was shared Thursday by Norma Pisana during the first day of proceedings
[01:08.400 --> 01:12.880]  in the trial of Antonio Bieler, an Austin, Texas, activist accused of refusing to obey
[01:12.880 --> 01:17.340]  a police officer after he stepped in to record and ultimately defend a woman when she was
[01:17.340 --> 01:19.680]  apparently being treated aggressively by police.
[01:19.680 --> 01:23.620]  Pisana is the female passenger who was ripped from her friend's car shortly before Bieler
[01:23.620 --> 01:27.280]  was arrested for resisting arrest and for allegedly spitting in the face of Officer
[01:27.280 --> 01:28.440]  Patrick Oborski.
[01:28.440 --> 01:32.360]  While those charges were ultimately no build by a Travis County grand jury, they did indict
[01:32.360 --> 01:36.560]  Bieler on a Class C misdemeanor charge, a failure to obey the order of an officer.
[01:36.560 --> 01:41.540]  The state is relying on the testimony of Oborski and Officer Robert Snyder, with Oborski testifying
[01:41.540 --> 01:45.200]  that Bieler was verbally aggressive and that he considered him a threat.
[01:45.200 --> 01:49.240]  To show the officers as the aggressors, the defense called Pisana to the stand.
[01:49.240 --> 01:53.200]  She told the jury that she called out to Bieler to video record the altercation, because she
[01:53.200 --> 01:56.760]  was afraid of what the officers would do to her, saying that she had never been treated
[01:56.760 --> 01:58.620]  like that by a male.
[01:58.620 --> 02:02.000]  At the conclusion of the lengthy first day of the trial, Bieler told the Liberty Bee
[02:02.000 --> 02:04.320]  that he's pleased to see the truth coming to light.
[02:04.320 --> 02:07.440]  I'm really glad that people have been able to come out and tell the truth about what's
[02:07.440 --> 02:11.680]  happened after all these years, and I'm just hoping that the jury, that they're eager to
[02:11.680 --> 02:13.440]  make sure that justice is served.

[09:35.560 --> 09:38.960]  The purpose of the militia back then is the same thing that the purpose of the militia

[09:46.080 --> 09:49.960]  go and take care of business, drag their bodies out to the street, and reestablish a free

[09:52.280 --> 09:53.880]  And I've read the Founding Fathers' writings.

[21:52.280 --> 21:59.920]  different camps in and for years, I let them all on the show on a regular basis, weekly,

[22:04.160 --> 22:08.620]  And I can tell you now that they are all a fool's errand.

[22:28.500 --> 22:32.160]  There are so many Supreme Court decisions supporting that, and yet every day people

[22:34.040 --> 22:41.000]  They simply allow states, cities, municipalities to run over the rights that they have.

[35:00.920 --> 35:09.620]  family law case that she filed criminal charges against a family law judge.
[35:09.620 --> 35:14.800]  And frankly, I thought that was absolutely astounding.
[35:14.800 --> 35:20.300]  But this happened because we went after them.
[35:20.300 --> 35:25.840]  We didn't stand back and complain and say, you should have done this, you should have
[35:25.840 --> 35:26.840]  done that.
[35:26.840 --> 35:32.600]  We took them on for the criminal aspect of what they were doing.
[35:32.600 --> 35:35.720]  This was a woman that was in a contentious divorce case.
[35:35.720 --> 35:37.500]  Her husband had a lot of money.
[35:37.500 --> 35:38.500]  She didn't.
[35:38.500 --> 35:40.400]  She's indigent.
[35:40.400 --> 35:49.120]  This happens often in divorce cases where the husband is the only one making a living.
[35:49.120 --> 35:56.400]  And in this case, the woman was taking hospice care for her father who was dying of cancer.
[35:56.400 --> 36:04.920]  And they used her inability to generate funds in order to take her child away from her,
[36:04.920 --> 36:07.600]  to take everything from her, put her in jail.
[36:07.600 --> 36:10.800]  And primarily all of this was because she wouldn't yield to them.
[36:10.800 --> 36:14.160]  She wouldn't take a deal.
[36:14.160 --> 36:26.480]  And when they came to us, primarily Ken Magnusson, we helped them put together some documents
[36:26.480 --> 36:35.000]  that didn't just object to what they were doing, but demonstrated how what they were
[36:35.000 --> 36:40.560]  doing violated criminal laws.
[36:40.560 --> 36:44.440]  And each step they took, we took what they were doing.
[36:44.440 --> 36:48.800]  Instead of complaining and griping about it, we looked at what they were doing, pulled
[36:48.800 --> 36:55.600]  out the code, walked down the code and the rules, and said, here's where you violated
[36:55.600 --> 37:04.760]  this code, here's where you violated this rule, here's the harm you caused to the other
[37:04.760 --> 37:08.640]  party, and this is the criminal statute you violated.
[37:08.640 --> 37:11.760]  We walked right down them.
[37:11.760 --> 37:15.640]  So we're finding remedy.
[37:15.640 --> 37:22.880]  But where we're finding remedy is in the law that's before them, in the very law
[37:22.880 --> 37:26.640]  that they're claiming to use to adjudicate the cases.
[37:26.640 --> 37:33.440]  The very law they're using against us, we get to use it against them.
[37:33.440 --> 37:45.000]  But this is essentially what I was referring to with Pastor Masset about us blinking at
[37:45.000 --> 37:47.460]  their discords.
[37:47.460 --> 37:52.960]  The first time one of our public officials stepped across one of our legal lines, we
[37:52.960 --> 37:57.520]  didn't rise up and rail in righteous indignation.
[37:57.520 --> 38:05.080]  We wait until something really bad happens, and to the degree that it will cause them
[38:05.080 --> 38:10.780]  all to gather together to protect themselves, and then make themselves a much harder target.
[38:10.780 --> 38:18.920]  My favorite way to go after a public official is over something incredibly minor.
[38:18.920 --> 38:23.520]  It is far more effective.
[38:23.520 --> 38:35.160]  My whole point here is to demonstrate that the most powerful person in the building is
[38:35.160 --> 38:42.420]  the citizen, is the ordinary, everyday nobody.
[38:42.420 --> 38:50.720]  We need some more people to take these officials to task and take them to task on the most
[38:50.720 --> 38:54.560]  minor of things.
[38:54.560 --> 38:59.880]  When I went to Randall County and asked to see some records, and the clerk told me that
[38:59.880 --> 39:03.160]  I wanted to see the hard copies, she told me I couldn't see the hard copies.
[39:03.160 --> 39:06.680]  She didn't have time or the staff, I'd have to look in the computer.
[39:06.680 --> 39:08.920]  They were all in the computer.
[39:08.920 --> 39:16.880]  And I told her, no, I need physical documents, because I expect certain documents to be missing
[39:16.880 --> 39:21.200]  and I need to be able to document that fact.
[39:21.200 --> 39:24.180]  And she said, well, I don't have the time or the personnel, you'll just have to look
[39:24.180 --> 39:27.240]  in the computer.
[39:27.240 --> 39:30.220]  Well, perfect.
[39:30.220 --> 39:33.880]  To her, that was a really minor thing.
[39:33.880 --> 39:39.600]  She probably has done this kind of thing all her career on a regular basis, and there was
[39:39.600 --> 39:42.760]  never any blowback from it.
[39:42.760 --> 39:48.760]  I just pushed the door open, called the bailiff over, and asked the bailiff to arrest her.
[39:48.760 --> 39:53.240]  She stood there, absolutely could not believe what was happening.
[39:53.240 --> 39:59.040]  And then I wound up calling 911 and I'm waiting for an officer to come.

[48:42.400 --> 48:50.040]  Yes, and I wound up doing a year in the penitentiary, did a year in prison, and I got out and I
[48:50.040 --> 48:54.080]  won my appeal, so they're givin' me another trial.
[48:54.080 --> 49:05.600]  Okay, now, at last time we talked to you, they had appointed you another counsel, how
[49:05.600 --> 49:07.480]  many does this make?

[49:09.960 --> 49:15.360]  Okay, and this counsel started out pretty angry, sounds like she did not want to be
[49:15.360 --> 49:17.480]  appointed to your case.
[49:17.480 --> 49:24.680]  Yes, she wrote me some pretty nasty emails sayin' that my motions were frivolous, and
[49:24.680 --> 49:29.120]  that she hadn't prepared for the trial, and the trial's comin' up, so this has only been
[49:29.120 --> 49:36.760]  a couple of weeks ago, and then she ordered me to be here Monday, to come into the courthouse
[49:36.760 --> 49:42.960]  or else she would have me arrested, and there's no court order summonsing me to be there on
[49:42.960 --> 49:45.360]  the 20th.
[49:45.360 --> 49:54.880]  So that should get malpractice, how much, you must be worth a whole lot an hour.
[49:54.880 --> 49:59.200]  Well I must be, so I showed up Monday and she came out into the lobby, and she told
[49:59.200 --> 50:04.680]  me to follow her down a hallway, and the last time I was on here, I said I don't like goin'
[50:04.680 --> 50:10.340]  down hallways with these people, because they do bad things to people in the back, and so
[50:10.340 --> 50:14.160]  I said that to her, I said I'm not goin' down there, if you need to talk to me, you can
[50:14.160 --> 50:18.960]  talk to me in the lobby, and she said I'll have you arrested, and I got a little, I got
[50:18.960 --> 50:24.320]  a little puffy, I said I'd like to see you try, and a policeman came out and got me and
[50:24.320 --> 50:27.160]  took me to jail on Monday.
[50:27.160 --> 50:33.880]  So you're a lawyer, had you arrested because you wouldn't go into an office and talk to
[50:33.880 --> 50:34.880]  her?
[50:34.880 --> 50:39.040]  That's what it looked like, at the end of it all, what they-
[50:39.040 --> 50:41.760]  Then she's not your lawyer.
[50:41.760 --> 50:48.760]  Okay, when my bail bondsman came to get me, I got out after about three hours or so, my
[50:48.760 --> 51:03.200]  bail bondsman tried to explain that they had rewritten my bond, is what it was.
[51:03.200 --> 51:09.720]  One thing I'd like to raise first, there's an old saying amongst lawyers, that when you
[51:09.720 --> 51:15.400]  have no defense, attack the plaintiff.
[51:15.400 --> 51:23.920]  That would work in the reverse as well, if you have no offense, attack the defendant.
[51:23.920 --> 51:29.080]  Keep in mind who your attorney is working for, it's not you.
[51:29.080 --> 51:33.200]  Oh no, you were so right.
[51:33.200 --> 51:38.920]  So I got out of jail, and they claimed that they had to do an extension of my bond, so
[51:38.920 --> 51:44.760]  they acted like it was just normal, but I never got a court order, and there's nothing
[51:44.760 --> 51:55.160]  on my docket that says that I was supposed to be re-extended for my bond, not until now.
[51:55.160 --> 51:59.840]  Was there a no bond hearing set?
[51:59.840 --> 52:03.120]  I don't even know what that is, so obviously no.
[52:03.120 --> 52:09.840]  Well, if they were going to extend your bond, it would seem they would need to have a hearing

[53:08.000 --> 53:17.000]  They don't get to arrest you and walk you through without a warrant, so if there is
[53:17.000 --> 53:24.880]  no warrant, then you file a false imprisonment against the judge, or against, if there is
[53:24.880 --> 53:32.040]  nothing by the court in the record showing authority for the officer to arrest, then
[53:32.040 --> 53:35.400]  you file a complaint against the officer.

[01:01:10.360 --> 01:01:14.640]  An Austin, Texas activist accused of refusing to obey a police officer after he stepped
[01:01:14.640 --> 01:01:18.600]  in to record and ultimately defend a woman when she was apparently being treated aggressively
[01:01:18.600 --> 01:01:19.600]  by police.
[01:01:19.600 --> 01:01:23.560]  Pisana is the female passenger who was ripped from her friend's car shortly before Bieler
[01:01:23.560 --> 01:01:27.260]  was arrested for resisting arrest and for allegedly spitting in the face of Officer
[01:01:27.260 --> 01:01:28.420]  Patrick Oborski.
[01:01:28.420 --> 01:01:32.360]  While those charges were ultimately no-billed by a Travis County grand jury, they did indict
[01:01:32.360 --> 01:01:36.520]  Bieler on a Class C misdemeanor charge, a failure to obey the order of an officer.
[01:01:36.520 --> 01:01:41.520]  The state is relying on the testimony of Oborski and Officer Robert Snyder, with Oborski testifying
[01:01:41.520 --> 01:01:45.160]  that Bieler was verbally aggressive and that he considered him a threat.
[01:01:45.160 --> 01:01:49.200]  To show the officers as the aggressors, the defense called Pisana to the stand.
[01:01:49.200 --> 01:01:53.180]  She told the jury that she called out to Bieler to video record the altercation, because she
[01:01:53.180 --> 01:01:56.760]  was afraid of what the officers would do to her, saying that she had never been treated
[01:01:56.760 --> 01:01:58.600]  like that by a male.
[01:01:58.600 --> 01:02:02.120]  At the conclusion of the lengthy first day of the trial, Bieler told the Liberty Beat

[01:55:30.780 --> 01:55:36.660]  After having going to work for a law firm, I learned very quickly that 90% of an attorney's
[01:55:36.660 --> 01:55:45.160]  job is covering his behind just so that someone like you doesn't come up and bite him in the
